Vocabulary In this lesson we learn to talk about things we are doing at the moment, some of which may be hobbies. As with feelings, the way to say "I am" is "ta mee" and the way to say "I am not" is "cha nel mee." We can also use "vel oo?" to ask "are you?" just as we did with feelings. We put our doing word (the verb) after "ta mee" or "cha nel mee," as in the following examples:
Notice that in Manx there is just one word where English has two (for example, "shooyl" means both "walk" and "walking"). Notice also that the way to say "I'm sleeping" has the word "my" in it. This is because in Manx we're saying something similar to "I'm in my state of sleeping" or "I'm in my sleep." Finally, the way to say "I'm watching television" includes the words "er y" which mean "on the." To say we're watching anything in Manx we actually say "looking on," so we're saying that we're "lookin on the television." Example conversations Have a go translating these conversations yourself. If you get stuck take another look at this lesson and/or go back to the lessons we've done before now. Example 1 (Q) Kys t'ou? (A) Ta mee çheh. (Q) Vel oo roie?
