The Manx Language Service

There are two tiers of entry for Manx: Higher and Foundation.

Higher Tier

Students studying the Higher Tier can attain a grade between A* - D (we do provide an allowed grade E as a safety net for Higher Tier candidates just falling short of a Grade D).

Foundation Tier

Students studying the Foundation Tier can attain grade between C-G.

Course Content

Both courses are divided into two distinct sections for learning. These sections focus primarily on discussing aspects of the individual and their daily lives.

Section 1

Unit 1: Myself
Unit 2: The family (part 1)
Unit 3: The family 2 (part 2)
Unit 4: The family 3 (part 3)
Unit 5: Pets
Unit 6: Hobbies
Unit 7: The classroom
Unit 8: Reading practice

Section 2

Unit 10: Free time
Unit 11: My life
Unit 12: Paul's diary
Unit 13: The week
Unit 14: Birthdays
Unit 15: The future
Unit 16: Good health
Unit 17: Worries
Unit 18: The weather
Unit 19: World places

Each section has its own corresponding text book that includes additional reference tables.

Assessment

Both courses assesses students in terms of their reading, writing, and listening skills. As such, assessment takes the format of written exam papers and controlled coursework assignments

Assessments are marked by the Manx Language Unit and the resultant qualification is endorsed by the Isle of Man Government.
